Blu Tack Putty

What is Blu Tack?

Blu Tack is the original brand name for a non-toxic, reusable adhesive putty, a popular choice for a wide variety of tasks, from securing posters and wall posts to holding small objects in place. In the modeling world, it is very useful for holding a miniature fixed to a stand for convenient painting, from which it can be easily detached after the painting is complete.

Blue Tac differs from other adhesives in its ability to stick with little force, keeping the objects firm, without damaging the surfaces or making holes in them. This is very useful in domestic and professional contexts because it is easy to remove and can be used several times. This characteristic is granted by its formulation. Blue Tac is composed of a mixture of natural rubber and synthetic materials, which also allows it to stretch and mold like plasticine to adapt to the different shapes and sizes needed at any given moment.

This is why it is very useful for model artists, who can hold figures and other small objects while painting with any type of paint, for example, acrylic paints. Blue Tac is ideal for attaching miniatures to sculpting cork XL, sculpting column cork, wooden bases, or even plastic supports, without leaving residues or damaging the figures.

It should also be noted that it is an environmentally friendly product since, as it is reusable, it reduces waste and minimizes its environmental impact. Blu Tack is also non-toxic and biodegradable, which makes this putty a sustainable option for many applications.

How do you remove Blu Tack stains?

Used for a short time, Blue Tac should not stain the surfaces on which it has been applied. However, if, for example, you remove a poster from the wall after it has been hung for a long time, it is possible that a small blue stain may remain on the wall. To clean it completely, you can use any of these techniques:

  • Easy stains. If after removing the putty from a surface has left a little residue, use a soft sponge dipped in warm water and rub without pressing until the stain disappears.
  • Heat application. If the Blue Tac has hardened on the surface, apply a little heat with a hair dryer or a hot air gun to soften it and restore its elasticity. This will make it easier to remove.
  • Cleaning products. If none of the previous tips have worked, use specific cleaning products for these cases. There are special stain removers for chewing gum that work very well with this putty, although you can also try a generic stain remover.

How much weight can Blu Tack hold?

The support capacity of this putty depends on several factors, such as the surface on which you want to apply it, its finish, or the ambient temperature of the place. But, in general, Blue Tac can hold small and light objects such as photos, notes, posters, ornaments, etc. However, it is not recommended for heavy objects or objects that require great adhesive strength, especially if you want to hang them on a wall.

In the words of the manufacturer, 0 '5 grams of product will hold up to 105 grams, but it is not designed to hold heavy objects.

Can you use Blu Tack to clean Airpods?

There are many websites that are spreading this method to clean headphones. While it is true that Blu Tack can catch dirt embedded in small places such as an earphone, the connectors for cables in cell phones and computers, or the speakers of a smartphone, it is not recommended as residue may remain inside and worsen the operation of the same. To clean these types of slots and crevices, it is advisable to use specific products and tools.

Blue Tac as a masking material

Blu Tack can also be used as a masking material when airbrushes. It is as easy as shaping a piece of product and placing it around the area of the figure or model that you do not want to paint. This will create a barrier that will prevent the paint from reaching those areas, helping to achieve a much more precise and accurate paint job.

However, Green Stuff World has specific products with less grip that fulfill this function and are specially prepared to not damage the previous paint when removing the product. Specifically, it is recommended to apply masking products, among which we bet on airbrush masking putty, masking tape, or liquid masking tape.

Where to buy Blu Tack?
